ARTIST BIO

Rosemary C Jones

Daughter of British artist Colin J. Hards, Rosemary was born in England in 1942 and came to Australia in 1954, initially residing in Tasmania. The passage of time saw her spend some years in Fiji, PNG and UK as well as Qld, NSW and Victoria - where she is now settled.

Largely self taught, but influenced by both her father and, more recently, by Joseph Zbukvic and Grace Paleg, Rosemary initially concentrated on atmospheric watercolours. She turned her interest to pastels in 2002 and continues to develop her technique with soft pastels, preferring to paint sea and landscapes. She has a love of birds and frequently paints this diverse subject. She is now broadening her experience by experimenting with oils!

Her decision to become competitive in 2006 resulted in Best Pastel in the Laidley Art Show, Queensland'™s largest regional art exhibition. and a 'Commendation' at the Mornington Art Show, 2013.

She has since successfully exhibited in Narooma, NSW, Queensland and Melbourne and participated in a joint exhibition in 2010 with 4 other artists. A successful solo exhibition was held in October 2012.

Rosemary was published in the Australian Artists Magazine in January 2011.

A past member of the Pastel Society of Victoria and the Pastel Society of Australia in Queensland, she is now a member of the Peninsula Arts Society in Victoria and served on the Committee member during 2012.

In November 2014 Rosemary was invited to join the Studio 12 group of exhibiting artists. Her studio in Frankston  Victoria and can be visited by appointment at any time.

Rosemary's work can be found in collections in the UK, as well as in Victoria, NSW, WA and Queensland.
