joan started serious painting at 32 yrs of age at Mitcham Arts Society, then with private teacher Marjorie Martin ,who was a follower of the Max Meldrum School, and a student of Graeme Moore herself.
joan lived and painted in the UK for 8 yrs, returned to Melbourne in 1992 and .married Jeff Gilmour that year.
she once again studied with Fiona Bilbrough, and Brian Armstrong.
she has done workshops with David Chen , Max Wilkes and Hans Van Voldrop.
she belongs to Peninsula Arts Society , Oak Hill Gallery and Peninsula Studio Trail.
her awards are many over the years, paintings hanging in the UK and USA, NZ and to date awards total over 180, (probably more, lost count)
